Straight answers to the questions we hear most. If yours isn’t here, just ask.
1. What does Home Care Setup help with?
We’re consultants for people starting a non-medical home care agency. Depending on your package, we help with business registration steps, guidance on your state’s licensing process, organizing your license application, state-specific policies and procedures, forms, hiring guidance, and (in Tiers 2 and 3) branding, a website and marketing materials. See Services for details.
2. What’s the difference between medical and non-medical home care?
Non-medical home care helps people with daily living: companionship, personal care such as bathing and dressing, meal preparation, light housekeeping, errands and medication reminders. Medical or skilled home health care, such as nursing or therapy, is a different license type in most states. Our work focuses on non-medical agencies.
3. Do I need to be a nurse or have healthcare experience?
In many states you don’t need to be a nurse to own a non-medical agency. But each state sets its own requirements for owners, administrators or managers, and some require specific experience or training. We’ll go over your state’s current requirements in your consultation.
4. Can I run my agency from home?
Sometimes. Some states allow a home office, others have office requirements, and local zoning or business license rules can also apply. We’ll help you find out what applies to your state and city.
5. How long does it take to get licensed?
It varies by state, and it depends on how quickly the state processes applications and inspections. We can’t control state timelines. We help you submit a complete, organized application so missing paperwork doesn’t cause avoidable delays. See How It Works for the full process.
6. How much does it cost?
Our pricing depends on the package. Contact us for pricing. On top of our fees, you’ll have costs like state licensing fees, business filing fees, insurance or bonding, and background checks. These are paid directly to those organizations and vary by state. We’ll go over them with you so you can plan.
7. Do you offer payment plans?
Ask us during your free consultation. We’ll go over payment options for the package you’re interested in.
8. Can you guarantee I’ll get my license?
No, and you should be careful with anyone who says they can. Only your state can issue a license. We help you understand the requirements and prepare a careful, complete application, but the decision belongs to the state.
9. Will you help me get clients and caregivers?
We provide hiring guidance, and Tiers 2 and 3 include marketing materials and guidance on where and how to reach clients. Finding clients and recruiting caregivers is ultimately up to you as the owner, and no one can promise either one. A lesson our founder learned firsthand: plan your caregiver recruiting early. Calls from clients don’t help if you have no one to send.
10. Which states do you cover, and how do I get started?
Our States & Licensing page gives an overview for California, Texas, Illinois and Nevada. If you’re planning to open in another state, ask us. To get started, book a free consultation or call (847) 275-3096. We’ll talk about your goals, your state and which package fits.
